Undergraduate Academic Affairs Educational enrichment funding provides an impactful way to extend learning beyond the classroom and increase intellectual engagement between students and faculty. UAA offers two funding opportunities to facilitate activities that enrich the undergraduate experience. Faculty Enrichment program provides support for faculty members interested in bringing in dynamic guest speakers or arranging a field trip to an inspiring regional locale for their class. UAA Sponsored programs provide partial funding support for departments or units that wish to host an event designed for undergraduate students (which may not necessarily be related to a specific class). Host departments/units are expected to provide co-sponsorships to support the cost of the enrichment activity or program.
Examples of funding support provided UAA Enrichment to faculty and departments include:
- Modest honorarium for guest lecturers in classrooms
- Field trip transportation within New Jersey and to regional cities such as New York, Philadelphia, Boston, and Washington, D.C.
- Museum entrance fees and tickets to theatrical performances
- Co-sponsored events open to the University Community featuring invited guest lecturers
During the academic year, a faculty review committee comprised of representatives from various schools and departments evaluates requests for UAA enrichment funding. Responses are typically given within 30 days of application.
Visiting speakers receiving an honorarium must complete a W9 form for tax purposes. If they do not possess a Social Security number, additional paperwork will be required depending on their country of citizenship and purposes for visiting the United States.
UAA cosponsored events must provide the speaker information and flyer to UAA, with the department included in the list of co-sponsors.
The Trip Planning Guide contains helpful information about planning an out-of-class excursion for your students. Please note that all class excursions and field trips require completion of a trip itinerary form which must be sent to Cara Macaluso, (firstname.lastname@example.org) 24-business hours in advance of the trip. The relevant travel waivers must also be filled out by all students who will be attending the field trip and the waivers are kept on file for two years with your academic department.
