Assistant Vice Chancellor for Undergraduate Academic Affairs
Michael brings an extensive background in corporate finance, treasury, financial planning and analysis, investor relations, strategic planning and risk management along with a deep appreciation for Rutgers. Michael has close to 20 years of experience in the field of Finance and Administration. In his time working in both the public and nonprofit sectors, Michael’s developed broad, extensive experience in budget and financial management, strategic planning, operations, and information technology. Prior to working in higher education, Michael worked on Wall Street where he played several key roles in Compliance, Investment Banking, Marketing and financial application development. He has led teams to develop compliance software for the NASD, and marketing teams to develop prospectuses for international clients. Prior to joining Rutgers, Michael served as Project Manager for Financial Planning for Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, where he instituted sweeping changes in their organizational structure, budget & financial reporting, and faculty and student IT services. Michael’s experience in leadership positions, ranging from, Morgan Stanley, AXA Equitable, and Credit Suisse to Rutgers University and Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and, most immediately, in his role as Sr. Executive Director of Undergraduate Academic Affairs where he led the complete reorganization of UAA including University Career Services, Disability Services, Student Access and Educational Equity, the Rutgers Learning Centers and helped create the new Honors College of Rutgers University - New Brunswick.
His expertise in finance, administration, and strategic planning ensure that Rutgers NB is well positioned to assist our senior leaders in continuing the growth of these and other programs at a time when public education has struggled to keep pace with private universities and at a time when key constituencies of our student body have struggled financially to achieve their educational goals. Michael will continue to play a critical role in facilitating the best possible experience for our students, faculty and staff. Mr. Hewson holds an M.B.A., and a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University.
